Construction Pipeline & Firms: What Is Being Built, Where, and by Whom
Where is building picking up, and who is there to do it? The official approvals, starts and completions for every area, and the firms registered in each district.
For builders' merchants, product manufacturers, M&A and investment teams sizing a market, planning a sales territory or building a target list.
What is in the pack
- England: homes started and completed by tenure (private, housing association, council), every district, quarterly from 2005 and yearly from 1980.
- Ireland: new homes completed by local authority and type (single, scheme, apartment) from 2011, and by local electoral area.
- France: homes authorised and started, with floor area, for every commune from 2021, and per département.
- Australia: dwellings approved and the value of building approved, every council area, monthly from 2018.
- New Zealand: new homes consented by type, with value and floor area, every council, monthly from 1990.
- Trend table: every area's latest 12 months against the 12 before, so the risers and fallers are one sort away.
- UK firms: every active company declaring a construction, architecture, engineering or quantity surveying activity: number, name, incorporation date, trades, registered office and district, with counts and new formations per district.
Good to know
- Approvals and starts lead completions: in England a home is typically finished 18 to 24 months after it is started, so those series are the forward view.
- A company's registered office is where its post goes, not necessarily where it works. The firm list names companies only: no directors or other people.
- Each country counts in its own way (approvals, consents, starts, completions), so compare trends within a country rather than raw totals across them.
